Life Is A Slow Harold

My grandfather passed away on July 21st of this year. I was on the train to Montreal with a good friend, telling him about my grandfather the moment my mother called me with the news. He was a dedicated francophile so I initially marked his passing with as much French culture, language, and food as I could find in Quebec.

We had a celebration of his life two weeks ago in Newport, OR, where he lived the last few years of his life. He moved from Costa Mesa, CA (near Newport Beach) with my grandmother, who passed last year, a few years before. One of his favorite pastimes seemed to be photographing us grandchildren as we ate. He is full Greek, his parents emigrated from Constantinople in 1900, and maybe it delighted him to see us stuffing our faces. Or maybe it was just weird timing. Either way, as soon as we would sit down to eat we could hear the click and manual wind up of his disposable camera.

So I went ahead and documented us eating at his celebration.
