The Stupa at Bodhnath is surrounded by shops, homes, and hotels in a big circle square. When you visit a Stupa, you walk clockwise around it while turning the prayer wheels or moving your prayer beads. The one in Bodhnath is great, the whole town is walking around it at some point of the day to pray. While they’re doing this, they’re running into friends or walking and chatting with others. Around dusk, when people start to get out of work, the circle is full of people going around and around, all having a good time or a meditative time.
I joined for about an hour, then sat and watched for a while more. This is one of my favorite spots in Kathmandu.
