Complainers
I’ve spoken with several travelers who say that the Nepalis do not complain, they accept things the way they are. In my few days among Nepalis, it seems to be true. When asked why they don’t speak up, they say “what can we do?” When stuffed 10 to a 7 person jeep, what can they say, that is the way things are. Meanwhile, many other travelers make it known when they are unhappy. When forced to fit a 4th (or 5th) person onto a 3 person seat in a jeep on a giant pot hole through the mountains, the travelers complain while the Nepali driver goes about shoving the people in anyway. When something goes wrong in an internet cafe, or their order is missing something in a garden cafe, there is a French accent making it known they are unhappy. I wonder what many of the Nepalis here in Kathmandu think of this. They must be used to it by now, they seem to be taking it in stride. It usually is a French accent complaining. Occasionally a Dutch or German as well. The Israelis seem to be above it all, the few Americans are just passing through to hit the trail, and the Aussies are just having to much fun. Oh, and yesterday I did see a large group of Nepalis marching with communist flags not accepting the way things are.
